Master fiber optics —
hands-on, before the field.
The Fiber Optic Lab is an interactive Fiber Optic Simulation & Training Suite: a realistic optical lab in your browser. Practise OTDR traces, spectrum analysis, GPON design, splicing and link budgets — risk-free, on real-world physics.
Built for how you work
From the splice tray to the spectrum, from PON design to the lecture hall — a lab tailored to every part of the optical chain.
Access & field
Technician
Prep, splice, connectorise and turn up subscribers — practise the whole field workflow before you touch a real span.
The optical network, end to end
From a single strand of glass to a live PON, the Fiber Optic Lab lets you explore and practise every layer of the fiber-optic chain.
Optical Fiber
Core, cladding and modes — how light is guided through glass over kilometres with minimal loss.
Learn more →Connectors & Splices
LC, SC, MTP/MPO and fusion splices — the joints that keep insertion loss and reflectance in check.
Learn more →Light & Wavelengths
O-band to L-band, CWDM and DWDM — many channels of light sharing one fiber by colour.
Learn more →PON & FTTH
OLT → splitter → ONT. Plan passive optical networks that bring fiber all the way to the home.
Learn more →Power Meter & VFL
Measure optical power in dBm and trace faults with a visible red laser — the everyday tools for turn-up and troubleshooting.
Learn more →Fusion Splicing
Strip, cleave, align and arc — fuse two fibers into one with near-zero loss, step by step.
Learn more →Follow the light home
One pulse of light, traced across the whole network — from the laser in the central office to the screen in a living room.
-
01 — Origin
Light is born in the central office
The OLT fires a laser down the feeder fibre at 1490 nm. One pulse of light now carries a household's internet, voice and TV.
-
02 — Outside plant
Out through the ODF and the trunk cable
Past the optical distribution frame and into the duct, the signal threads the city — kilometres of glass thinner than a human hair.
-
03 — Splice
Span meets span at the splice closure
Fusion splices weld fibre to fibre with a few hundredths of a dB of loss — the joins you cannot afford to get wrong.
-
04 — Distribution
One fibre becomes many at the splitter
A passive PLC splitter fans the signal out to as many as 64 homes — no power, no electronics, just precisely divided light.
-
05 — Arrival
The ONT lights up — the home is online
At the wall, the ONT locks onto the wavelength and hands over clean Ethernet. What began as a laser pulse ends as a video call.
Design a fibre link and see if it survives
Drag the sliders. Watch the optical power drain through every kilometre, splice, connector and splitter — and find out if the signal still reaches the home with margin to spare.
Simplified demo with typical coefficients. The full design-engineer labs model wavelength-dependent loss, connector grades, splitter tolerances and safety margins.
Train on real physics, with zero risk
Build true intuition for optical systems before you ever touch live equipment or a live fiber.
Realistic models
Instruments behave on real optical physics — loss budgets, dispersion, OSNR and more.
Risk-free practice
Make mistakes, retry, and learn — no fragile fiber, no costly gear, no downtime.
Anywhere, any device
Runs in the browser, light or dark, on a 27-inch display or a phone.
Built for training
Guided instruments and explainers turn theory into hands-on field-ready skill.
